Yin Yang Ingredient Policy

Since I began to formulate and make skin care products, forty years ago, it has always been my policy to use good edible, useful plant ingredients from fruit, vegetable and herbal sources. I instinctively felt, that high quality was best and also chose organic or wild crafted ingredients where it was possible and economical to do so.

Plant of the month - Wild Yam

The Wild Yam is a perennial plant with heart shaped leaves that grows wild in tropical areas of the World, including the USA, South America and Indonesia. It is a staple food crop in these tropical regions and must not be confused with the sweet potato as the two of them are not related. The Wild Yam has 50 per cent more protein and it is consequently a better source of energy. It is sometimes called “colic root” because of its antispasmodic properties and as a result is often used in herbal remedies to treat stomach and other cramps. It is an excellent source of potassium, which is an important mineral that works with sodium to maintain the fluid and electrolyte balance within our body’s cells. Interestingly, the Yam has the same chemical structure as progesterone and I first became interested iu the vegetable when I read Leslie Kenton’s fascinating book PASSAGE TO POWER. As a result I combined wild crafted Wild Yam root with a fermented soya cream to use myself.

Product of the month – Wild Yam Cream

When I made the personal batch for myself, Moira, who has been my technical assistant for 24 years, used the product herself and it was so good for her that she began to tell our customers about it when they telephoned her to place their orders. The result was that very quickly the product became a best seller and has continued to be a “must have” for many customers for the past 18 years. Wild Yam Cream relieves monthly period cramps, eases pre-menstrual tension and it really comes into play to relieve hot flushes and the confusion experienced during menopause. I tend to think of the Wild Yam as the energy booster. It seems to boost the mood and energies when our progesterone levels drop on or around day 24 of the menstrual cycle, which helps with PMT. It is best used for 21 days in every 28 days but can be used daily during and after menopause.
