Intercontinental driving challenge

YIN YANG SKIN CARE sponsored a team, which took part this weekend in an Intercontinental driving challenge to raise money for charity in a £500 car. The maximum allowed for each vehicle. There were four drivers in our car – a BMW 5 SERIES – No. 69. The drivers were – Desmond (Patrick-Smith), Aide, Chris and Pete – last but not least as he is a mechanic. As part of the sponsorship YIN YANG SKIN CARE gave each of the four drivers a YIN YANG PH AMINO-GOLD DEFENCE LOTION to help them to protect their skin during the journey, races and social events which made the event such fun from start to finish. This lotion is light and easy to use but it is very effective for looking after the skin when exposed to the elements – much respected by sports people and gardeners alike. This is because it uses lots of two good plant oils – COCONUT OIL, which is full of essential fatty acids that cut out 20% of the sun’s rays - and – WHEATGERM OIL, which contains a high proportion of the amino acid methionine, known to combat the affects of radiation. Put the two together – and you have natural protection – free of chemicals and metals.

THE TWIN TOWN CHALLENGE ran from 23 to 26 May when fifty cars each drove from Witney to its twin town Le Touquet via three iconic race tracks, twelve awesome challenges and a street party with an eleven piece band from Witney. The cars left Charlbury at 8 a.m. on Friday morning, visited Brands Hatch to race, en route to Le Touquet for the Mayor’s Reception. On the Saturday the teams drove to the Le Mans 24 hours circuit for their race and on Sunday the teams enjoyed a circuit around Croix en Temois, before returning to Le Touquet for the “007” street party and auction in the evening. The finale was a prize giving and farewell at Witney Lakes Resort on Monday 26th May, when the cars were donated to WITNEY MOTOR AUCTIONS for sale in aid of SPECIAL EFFECT.

THE AWESOME CHALLENGES included Fancy Dress for the Journey, Driving challenges, best car decoration, Jeremy Clarkson’s COOL wall, a video game challenge – driving a “cyber” circuit without using your hands and an Aunt Sally match. (Aunt Sally is a traditional Oxfordshire game!) Points were awarded for each challenge. THE AUCTION PRIZES include a visit to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, The Tim Harvey experience, the Paul McGinley Algave Golf experience, the English Cricket experience and the Lotus F1 experience - AMONG OTHERS.

The winners over the entire weekend with the highest overall points were the team TOUR DE FARCE with 5,222 points – our team FRENCH CONNECTION LE TOURQUET finished well in the top 12 and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The purpose of this adventure is to support “SPECIAL EFFECT” which is a unique Oxfordshire based charity with a remarkable aim to put fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities, by helping them to play video games. By using technology ranging from modified joypads to eye control, they find a way for people to play to the very best of their abilities. This is a serious therapy, which brings families and friends together providing a profoundly positive impact on confidence and rehabilitation. MINTY, a youngster who has cebreral palsey, is just one of the hundreds of lives that SPECIAL EFFECT has touched in its short history. They use technology to enhance the quality of life of people with all kinds of needs, including stroke and road traffic accident patients, individuals with life-limiting conditions and injured soldiers returning from overseas. For wounded servicemen, rehabilitation means far more than just repairing the body. Getting back to a sense of normality and reviving the quality of life is crucial, and Lloyd (a war veteran who had lost both of his legs and the use of one hand) was helped to get back to doing what he loves. He was loaned a range of one-handed games controllers to try, and after finding one that's just right, he’s been back in the game and competing with his mates ever since!
