‘On Thin Ice’
Ben Fogle in Race to The South Pole
Ben Fogle, James Cracknell and Lee Miller came close second in January this year in the first organised race to the South Pole since Scott and Amundsen’s fateful adventure a century ago. However, this time, all six teams completed the 480 mile most challenging trek across the Earth’s coldest, windiest and highest continent. The filmed series of their adventures is PICK OF THE DAY entitled “ON THIN ICE” and begins this Sunday 28th June at 9 p.m. on BBC2.
Southern Lights
One of the teams was Southern Lights. Tessa Burrows with her partner Pete yin-yang-northwere the veteran team. They are both in their early sixties, and intrepid adventurers, who have climbed the World’s highest and most challenging mountains over the past 12 years or so. Traditionally they have taken some Yin Yang as part of their limited “kit” and this time they found Yin Yang pH-amino Gold Defence Lotion & Yin Yang Joint Cream eased their journey. Indeed they were the only team not to suffer frostbite and Tessa reports that she felt surprisingly well when they arrived at the South Pole – feeling exhausted but exhilarated.
‘On thin Ice’ will be an illuminating record of the gruelling training and race. I am looking forward to watching the series every Sunday for the next five weeks and despite it being Ben Fogle’s story, hope to catch some glimpses of Tessa and Pete. It will be an interesting introduction to Tessa’s book about her experience of the race, which is to be published later this year.
